Overview

A Europe’s biggest personal styling service for men that helps them find clothes that fit their style and budget.

Challenge

  • The customer needed a backup system that was able to work with virtual machines in the cloud;
  • The backed up data needed to be duplicated in the cloud and on local NAS devices;
  • The deduplication system was needed to save disk space;
  • The reasonable pricing and a straightforwarding license model was needed.

Solution

  1. Because of both Global Endpoint Deduplication™ and Aligned Volume Deduplication technologies Bacula was a good fit;
  2. Deduplication was chosen because it worked on both client and storage daemons, saving network and storage resources;
  3. Deduplication was applied together with comm line compression to further reduce bandwidth usage;
  4. The solution worked in the cloud-only environment “out of the box”.

Results

  • 2-3 weeks were spent on testing, and then the system was rolled out to production with no issues;
  • 90% of the target backup size was saved using Global Endpoint Deduplication™;
  • The license cost was 4-5 times less in comparison with other enterprise vendors, especially keeping in mind what is included in Bacula’s annual subscription.
